KAREN advocates at GNS Science recognised today

Today, two more people within the KAREN community were recognised for their contributions to KAREN and eResearch with KAREN Awards.

KAREN Awards recognise members of the KAREN community who have made an outstanding contribution to the community or who have embraced and advocated eResearch.

KAREN Awards at GNS Science

At the eResearch at GNS workshop today, Chris Litten (REANNZ Member Engagement Manager), awarded a KAREN Champion award to Dr Ken Gledhill and a KAREN Enabler award to Dr Chris Kroger.

Ken is the Project Manager for GeoNet, a geologoical hazard monitoring system that is drastically reducing the likelihood of major devastation and serious economic upheaval from tsunami. Data from tsunami and other events is stored at GNS Science and freely available for anyone to use. New Zealand scientists have ready access to this data over KAREN. You can see more information about Ken’s work at the GeoNet case study – Tsunami: improving the odds.

As a Research Manager at GNS Science, Chris Kroger was instrumental in pulling together the successful eResearch at GNS workshop today to help GNS Science staff explore eResearch techniques in action, how people are benefitting from it, and learn of ways you may be able to use eResearch technologies to enhance their own research.
